Accomplishments

Woody has a track record of getting results for the citizens of Cornelius.

Maintained a fiscally sound and highly efficient town government while keeping our taxes the lowest in the region and among the very lowest in the state and achieving a “AAA” Bond rating.

Strongly advocated for our police and firefighters to ensure they have the resources, support, and training necessary to keep our families and communities safe.

Worked closely with NCDOT to build relationships and achieved approval for 13 significant Cornelius transportation/road projects beginning in 2023 that will address many of our traffic challenges and headaches.

Established the Mayor’s Affordable Housing Committee to fully examine the needs of workforce housing based on the fact 90% of the people working in Cornelius cannot afford to live here.  Out of this committee, The Cornelius Community Development Corporation was formed, funded, and is now operating.

Successfully served as Major Gifts Chairman and personally participated in raising the required $25,000,000 goal to build The Cain Center for the Arts. This beautiful, new Arts Center was opened Jan. 3, 2023 without debt to provide entertainment, arts education and to promote the much-needed redevelopment of Downtown Cornelius for centuries to come.

Worked diligently to bring new jobs and businesses to the town, such as the new Atrium Hospital of Lake Norman along with notable medical offices and specialties while continuing to champion our homegrown small businesses.

Formed the Mayor’s Task Force to establish the Cornelius History Museum to work specifically to preserve the history of Old Town Cornelius, Smithville, and Lake Norman.

Successfully advocated for increasing Park maintenance funding while completing 80+% of the Emerald Necklace Greenway surrounding our town and connecting Cornelius with adjoining towns.

Listened and responded to the concerns of Cornelius citizens and businesses by conducting regular listening circles, coffee chats, and regular Town Talk sessions designed to present updates, take questions, and provide feedback.
